毅行路線: CP2: 北潭坳 至 獅子亭 (約26.2km)




路段:

如果針草帽是麥徑後段的亮點, 那雞公山、馬鞍山 (還有第一段的西灣山) 可說是麥徑前段的亮點. 前者比較灑脫, 大上大落, 後者比較拉鋸, 起伏連綿. 雖然沒有很高很倒, 但是一個坡又一個坡的走, 有點累人. 而且沿途便利 (可搭車離開) 的出口有限, 要麼努力走下去或繞道, 要麼休息夠了再出發.

補給方面亦有限制, 第三段的嶂上有士多, 之後便要到第五段的獅子亭才再有. 在第三段的北潭坳與第四段企嶺下的起步處有厠所與汽水機, 但可能有售罄的風險存在. 沿途是有山水作緊急用, 這當然是後果自負.

CP2北潭坳與CP3企嶺下可說晚餐補給熱點, 就算早出發的, 來到CP3企嶺下亦一般已是天黑的晚飯時刻 (快隊的就不管了), 吃飽好上路. 晚出發的, 則一般在CP2北潭坳. 所以頭燈在起步時便要帶著, 或是有強大的支援隊在幫忙.

由於賽事時, 一般在北潭坳路段便已天黑, 所以夜間練習都會選第三、四段. , 為了毅行能有充足準備的大長課操練, 會由CP2:北潭坳開始, 直至荃錦坳的CP8:大帽山結束, 是為傳說中的「雙坳」, 54公里.

一般在毅行訓練尾聲來一次大長課最為理想. 作為橫跨夜間與日間的練習, 可在大埔道或城門燒烤場, 托支援隊帶來早餐與補給. 有志者則集中苦練雙坳, 以提升功力, 在賽事時爭取好成績. 能像這樣重複做同一件事而樂在其中, 那已不止是興趣, 而是生命的一部份, 化作動力, 亦是快樂的泉源.

1. CP2: 北潭坳 [M049] CP3: 企嶺下 [M069] (麥徑第三段)
這段以雞公山為亮點, 但起步時上牛耳石山的一段已經開始累人. 來到嶂上的士多去更是一個陷阱. 路還漫長, 別只留戀眼前的享樂哦. 由於練習時節偶有雷暴, 如有需要, 可在前往雞公山的路上繞道至榕樹澳而不登頂.

賽事期間, 嶂上的士多會移到路邊擺檔售賣小吃飲品, 其實最好別作停留, 但總會心癮發作想要吃個魚旦喝個汽水. 去年有遇到小情侣在上雞公山的路上, 放了一鍋羊肉鍋在路邊, 贈予過路的參加者作支持. 雖然沒有品嚐, 但在寒冷的夜裡得到這樣的鼓勵著實讓人窩心.

2. CP3: 企嶺下 [M069] CP4: 基維爾營 [M094] (麥徑第四段)
這段以馬鞍山為亮點. 個人覺得這段路很漫長, 一開始便是長命斜, 下坡, 然後挨過馬鞍山, 下坡, 還以為日子會好過一點, 誰知在茅坪過後, 又是爬坡的路, 下坡, 又見上坡的樓梯, 這才終於到達基維爾營.

不過沿路的景色著實迷人, 尤其以登上馬鞍山 (M079)那一帶至昂平(M082)最漂亮, 一邊是西貢白沙灣一帶自然景色, 一邊是沙田一帶城市遠景. 閒來亦有人在昂平玩滑翔傘, 或大伙郊遊的人.

毅行賽事期間, 有緣或可在茅坪一帶遇見薑茶大使黃山先生, 為你送上溫暖的免費薑茶打氣. 可知道茅坪是沒有車路, 那些水都是他以手提的方法, 走半小時到山溪取水. 夜裡可看到山間一點點的亮光人龍, 既壯觀又美麗.

3. CP4: 基維爾營 [M094] 沙田坳-獅子亭[M101] (麥徑第五段)
賽事期間, 經過漫長的折騰後, 來到基維爾營這主要的檢查站, 標誌著路程已幾乎走到了一半, 亦是很重要的心理關口. 也許是半途效應作祟. 聽說人們來到這裡, 會放棄的機率滿高. 可能是終於走到一半了, 鬆懈了, 休息長了, 再起動時肌肉酸痛了, 想起還有另外的一半路程(針草帽), 應該挨不下去了, 也就快快放棄了, 現在退出是可惜, 越接近終點才退出是遺憾. 不管怎樣, 面對著四周都是草地的「睡眠區」, 又附有沖涼設施 (雖然其實很少會用到), 簡直是魔鬼的引誘. 建議小休還後速逃, 停留越久, 越削減意志.
       
前往獅子亭的山路較為平坦亦沉悶, 小心渴睡症發作. 走到馬路後, 由於是下坡路, 可考慮緩步跑 (快隊一般已在暴走中). 白天山下的景色優美, 夜裡更是迷人. 到獅子亭的士多, 小心受誘惑又滯留於此.

練習時, 一般不會直入基維爾營地, 而是繞過小溪繼續走麥埋浩徑. 夏天練習時, 那小溪的水倍覺清涼, 亦可用作緊急用水, 當然又是後果自負. 往獅子亭的沙田坳道, 有好幾個山水出口處, 人們喜歡在那裡接水, 也是另一緊急用水.

4. 沙田坳-獅子亭 慈雲山()巴士總站
之前曾提及黃大仙地鐵站到獅子亭的方法, 這便是其中之一.

Trailwalker Route: CP2: Pak Tam Au to Lion Pavilion

Section:

4.      Lion Pavilion at Sha Tin Pass [M101] to Tsz Wan Shan (North) Bus Terminus (about 1km)


If Needle Hill, Grass Hill and Tai Mo Shan are the highlights of the after half of the MacLehose Trail, then Kai Kung Shan, Ma On Shan (should include Sai Wan Shan in section 1) would be the highlights of the first half. The former is relatively readiness, like the swings. The latter is more like a seesaw battle, up and down in the rolling hills. It’s not high or steep, but it’s getting exhausted easily if up and down again and again. Besides, there are limited way out in this route (that can catch the public transport easily). Therefore, you better keep on going or detour, otherwise, take a rest.

Support points are also limited. This is a store at Cheung Sheung (Seaction 3), then another store have to walk until you reach Lion Pavilion at Sha Tin Pass. There are toilets and drinks vending machines at the beginning of Section 3 (Pak Tam Au) and Section 4 (Kei Ling Ha). But there is a chance of sold out. Somehow you can take the rain water at some spots, but sure you’ll take the risk as well.

It’s very popular to set the dinner time at either CP2: Pak Tam Au or CP3: Kei Ling Ha. In general it’s being dark when you reach CP3: Kei Ling Ha even you start very early (exception to fast team), it’s good to eat well then keep going. You normally have the dinner at CP2: Pak Tam Au if you start at late. It’s better to take the torch with you or rely on powerful support team.

During the event day, it’s normally getting dark when heading to Pak Tam Au. Therefore, it’s common to have night training in Section 3 and 4. Also, in order to be well prepared for trailwalker, it is necessary to have long distance training. Start from CP2: Pak Tam Au to CP8: Tai Mo Shan (Tsuen Kam Au), which is so called as the legend “Double Au”, about 54km.

Normally it is better to have at least one long distance training a week before trailwalker event day. Since this long distance training start from the night time in general and last to next day morning, the best supporting point would be at Tai Po Road (Kam Shan Country Park) or BBQ site at Jubilee (Shing Mun) Reservoir. Somehow the fast team will focus on “Double Au” to enhance their fitness for better result. Walking on the same route for many times and can still enjoy of it, that’s no longer just for training or kind of interest. It becomes part of life, kind of motivation, also a source of happiness.

1. CP2: Pak Tam Au [M049] to CP3: Kei Ling Ha [M069] (MacLehose Trail Section 3)
Kai Kung Shan is the highlight of this section. But it is already exhausted at the beginning when walking up to the Ngau Yee Shek Shan. Then you will be so happy to see the store at Cheung Sheung and would like to have a rest, enjoy the cool drinks and snacks. Hey, that’s a trap! Still have long long way to go, don’t stay that long. During the training season between July and August, thunderstorms commonly occur. Just in case, you can detour to Yung Shue O when heading to Kai Kung Shan and not reaching the peak.

During the trailwalker event day, the store in Cheung Sheung will set a booth at the road side selling drinks and snacks. Actually it is better not to stay there, but somehow it is so attractive to have something to drinks or eat and take a rest. Try to beat your demons and keep going. Last year there was a couple staying on the way to Kai Kung Shan, sharing the lamb pot to the walkers. That’s really sweat when you saw them in the middle of the cold night. But I’m so full that I can’t take the lamb.

2. CP3: Kei Ling Ha [M069] to CP4: Gilwell Campsite [M094] (MacLehose Trail Section 4)
Ma On Shan is the highlights of this section. Personally think that this section is like an endless walk. A long uphill at the beginning, then going down. Going up to Ma On Shan, then going down again. Finish? Not yet! There is another uphill after Mau Ping, then going down. Finally, you will reach Gilwel Campsite after going up the long stairs.

The view between the way to Ma On Shan (M079) and Ngong Ping (M082) is very nice. You deserve it! One side is Pak Sha Wa with natural scenery, while another side is Shatin town city view. During the weekends, people will go to Ngong Ping for Paragliding or have a leisure walk there.

During the trailwalker event day, you may meet Mr. Wong who offering you a hot ginger tea for free at Mau Ping. The water he used is delivered by hand, walking for half hour for the mountain stream. Because there is no car way can reach there. At the night time, you will see a bright dragon between the mountains as walkers are using the light which is so amazing.

3. CP4: Gilwell Campsite [M094] to Lion Pavilion at Sha Tin Pass [M101] (MacLehose Trail Section 5)
During the trailwalker event day, after the long way walk from the starting and reach CP4: Gilwell Campsite. That means you are on the half way of the event and that is also a critical moment. As refer to Halfway Effect, it is said, the probability of people who quit the race is quite high. Maybe people thought that it is on the half way finally then being relaxed and rest longer. Once they start again the muscles are so sore and think of the tough after half (Needle Hill, Grass Hill and Tai Mo Shan), so they quit. It’s pity to quit at the half way but that would be a great regret to quit when getting closer to the finish point. Anyway, there is a “sleeping zone” on the grass everywhere and there is shower facility (somehow it’s seldom to use) which are so attractive. It’s better to leave after a short break, otherwise you will be being lazy when stay there too long.

The rough road to Lion Pavilion is flat and quite bored, Be careful, don’t fall asleep. When you reach the concrete road, it’s downhill. You can think of jogging and the fast team may already running. During the day time, the view there is so nice and the night view is so amazing. Don’t being stuck again when you reach the store at Lion Pavilion.

You would not go inside the Gilwell Campsite when training. In general, you can cross the streams and stick with MacLehose Trail. The water from the streams are so cool especial in the summer. The water can be used as emergency but no guarantee. There are some spots of streams along the way to Lion Pavilion that some people would like to collect the water there. That’s emergency water as well.

As mentioned before, that’s one of the way to go to Lion Pavilion from Wong Tai Sin MTR.
